Curtis Granderson
Founder

Curtis Granderson is a Major League Baseball All-Star Outfielder for the New York Mets and Founder of the Grand Kids Foundation.

A native of Lynwood, Illinois – just south of Chicago – Curtis is the son of two educators. His father Curtis Sr. was an elementary school Dean and Physical Education teacher at Nathan Hale Elementary and his mom, Mary, a Chemistry teacher at Currie Metropolitan High School. Together, they left an indelible bond of education and sports on a young Curtis Granderson.

Curtis Granderson's Major League Baseball accolades include the Roberto Clemente Award, two-time Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award, Silver Slugger Award, Lou Gehrig Memorial Award and three-time MLB All Star, to name a few. Baseball accomplishments aside, Curtis is most passionate about what happens off the field.

In 2007, Curtis established the Grand Kids Foundation (501c3) to improve educational experiences for youth nationwide, as well as providing baseball opportunities for inner city youths. To date, Grand Kids has donated millions of dollars to partners and programs across the globe. Curtis is also the official MLB Spokesperson for The White House’s Let’s Move anti-obesity campaign and Drink Up water initiative, as well as a Major League Baseball International Ambassador and member of the MLB On-Field Diversity Task Force.

In 2014, Granderson made an initial donation of $5 million to the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) for the development of Curtis Granderson Stadium, marking it as the largest known one-time donation from a professional athlete to their alma mater, according to Sports Illustrated. To date, more than 10,000 kids from Chicago’s inner city have enjoyed a safe venue to play the game of baseball, all year long at UIC’s indoor and outdoor facility.
